Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA News) – The increasing number of corruption cases in Aceh Province has aroused the deep concern of People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Chairman Ahmad Farhan.
“I learned about the increasing number of corruption cases from local law enforcing agency officials whom I met today,” he said here Monday.
Speaking to newsmen after meeting Aceh Police Chief Inspector General Fajar Prihantoro and some other local law enforcers, he said local courts had handled 13 corruption cases over the past six months.
“That is what I heard at the meeting. I did not ask the law enforcers to reveal the names of the suspects and the total amount of state money allegedly lost,” he said.
Compared to the number of corruption cases that had happened in Aceh over a period of many years previously, 13 cases within only six months could be rightly described as “increasing”, he said.
Therefore, the law enforcers were urged to keep handling corruption cases without considering those doing the crimes, he said.
The parliament, he said, would keep backing the country`s law enforcement bodies in investigating any corruption case in Aceh, the country`s westernmost province.
